About the API

Definition: It's a set of techniques known as 'web services', which allow dynamically-driven sites to communicate with each other using instructions called 'application programming interfaces' (APIs for short).

So what does this mean? It basically means you can connect your site to Route Hiker. Why would you want to do that? So you can display live data, maps and routecards on your website. This isn't for the faint hearted though, and requires some programming experience - but results are definetely worth the effort. The beauty of this API is that you can use any programming language which can retrieve content from URLs, so you're not limited to just web applications, but can also build for desktop applications as well.

If anyone successfully builds an application or plugin using our API, we'd love to hear from you, and may feature your case study on this page.
